How It Got Started

The idea gelled on my first trip ever to Europe, destined for the area in Scotland that my ancestors came from. During that journey, I made my discovery of a popular pastime called mudlarking, where people collect old, weathered pieces of pottery along the shores of the UK. The quiet ritual of searching, finding, and holding fragments of the past felt deeply connected to place, history, and personal memory.

This experience, paired with a surprise discovery of a source for 100% recycled silver and gold in a small village in the Cotswolds, became the perfect counterbalance of old and new. These two ingredients — found history and responsibly sourced materials — ultimately inspired this line, grounding it in intention.

Product Info

I find pieces of pottery that show some age through their cracks and designs—often in the range of a century or so old—and envision whether there is a part I can set in precious metal. Blue was such a popular color for dishes that it certainly dominates the finds, so other colors feel especially special when they appear.

The pottery pieces (or sherds, as they are called in the UK) can be a bit fragile, so sometimes the end product carries a chipped edge or a spot of discoloration. That is simply its history on display—each mark a quiet reminder of the life it lived before becoming something new.  I use is 100% recycled precious metals from a company out of Birmingham, England that has been a source of high quality precious metals for more than a century.

Why I Make What I Make

I look at my designs as wearable art.  Texture, color, shape, and contrast all play into my designs.  The fact that my materials come from found objects and recycled metals is a large part of my inspiration.  Human history, water and wind shape the pottery.  Fire and stone shape the metal.  In this way, it does feel like there is history in every piece
